I want to share some comments. There are several things I would like to see in the charter:
1.A fair hiring policy. Jobs should truly be needed and justified, by an independent board. Jobs should be publicly advertised in all major county papers, on a Sunday. There should be an independent board who interviews and hires people. This could be done by an out-of-town company or whatever.
This takes the political BS out of the equation. No fake jobs, political hacks, less chance of corruption, etc. If people are all related or owe favors, do you think they will be ethical?
2.Compensation packages and working conditions should reflect what the private sector offers. No massive healthcare, huge pensions, tons of days off, short work weeks, buyouts, early retirements, etc. Some of this is truly absurd. Many of the benefits offer FAMILY coverage and go on long after the person retires.
3.Government should be very minimal. We do not need parks, airports, etc. If we keep them, charge user fees or privatize them. Get us out of the nonsense.
4.Workers hours should be tracked via timeclocks or swipe cards. How do we know people are at work? They may not work while there, but that is also a separate issue.
5.County checks-and-balances need to be better. Excessive Internet usage for non-work, cruising around with county vehicles, etc., must stop. Put GPS in county cars and watch where they go.
6.There must be a balanced budget clause, so we cannot spend ourselves into poverty.
7.When people apply for various aid or services the county administers/provides, does anyone do a check into if the applicants are being truthful? If it involves income, do they contact the IRS for verification? If not, we may be providing needless services for free.
We need accountability. I have ZERO faith in the county now. It seems like a place to enrich yourself at the expense of others. This has to stop. Thanks.
Is there somewhere a pdf file that contains the county code or just those laws that are relevant to county government? I could swear I found it months ago but I can’t recall where. Does anyone have a link?
Contrary to the President Judge’s comments on progress in the court system, the fact that there has been no effort to explore alternatives to detention placments for juveniles is still a significant problem with this administration. Placements have been reduced in the last year but there is still no effort to explore what number of juveniles really need placements or what is happening to the impact on public safety and families because of the reduction in placements. The ego-centric nature of the court system as evident by the President Judge’s comments regarding public and media access to the number of placements was and is probably one of the reasons for the court scandal.
Hello Luzerne County, I have been watching the GSC on the webcast for the past few weeks and need to say that the clearity of the webcast is okay but needs to be more in focus. Also the sound from Veronica C., Frank C., C.J. K., Rick M. microphones need to be increased. I heard the audio also of the last meeting and it was frenquently poor quality. I hope this can be solved. Mr. Kersey and posse determine the problems and remedy them, please.
Also as per my Question proposed during August 26th meeting during the citizens comment, about posting the AGENDA prior to the scheduled meeting, there should be no problem but seems to BE. Time is running, the clock is ticking, measures need to implemented for the GSC to have more meetings as a group to accomplish thier task. Hope you all are doing so.
Luzerne County citizens as well as these United States of America, are getting dicouraged with the elected officals in Washington D.C., State elected, as well as local officals abusing the system and the citizens themselves. Our local government is being STUDIED Luzerne County GET INVOVLED LOCALLY first, the elections are coming if President Obama is looking for change, lets help by starting HERE -> vote for the NEW let the old be rung out. When I write, these words need be spake until they are instilled into ALL who represent US, Honesty, Righteousness, and Truth, WE deserve them.
As the the Lord said, Amen Amen I say to you, it is easier for a Camel to enter the EYE of a NEEDLE, than a RICH MAN to enter the Kingdom of GOD.
